Initial Key Creation and Installation on a Cyclone Programmer
This article describes how to create an Inital Key and how to install it on a Cyclone Programmer.
1. Create your ImageKey
Creating a new ImageKey file is easy. Start the Image Creation utility and select "Create Image Encryption Key ..." from the "Image Encryption" drop-down list. This opens a dialog box asking the user to provide an ImageKey description that will display the key on a Cyclone Programmer. When the user clicks Generate Encryption Key, they are prompted for a file name and where to store the ImageKey. This file can be used to provide Cyclones and should be kept in a safe place.
2. Add the created ImageKey to a Cyclone Programmer
The Cyclone Control graphical user interface adds ImageKeys to Cyclones. Start the GUI utility Cyclone Control and open the Cyclone you want to deploy with the ImageKey. Select the "Encryption Keys" tabs. This will display all ImageKeys currently in the Cyclone. To add a new ImageKey to the Cyclone, click on the "Add Encryption Key" button:
Then select the appropriate ImageKey.
The ImageKey is then added to the Cyclone's encrypted storage.
The Cyclone can now load and decrypt images encrypted with the ImageKey. If the ImageKey is ever deleted from the Cyclone, the Cyclone will lose access to any images encrypted with it. The Cyclone Control Console application can also be used to add, remove and list ImageKeys in a Cyclone.
