Description

This 1.5 metre long adapter cable fits onto the OBD2 connector near the steering wheel of your truck and allows you to easily connect a CANedge CAN logger, for example, to start recording OBD2/J1939 data.

The cable uses the same pin assignment for channel 1 as the standard OBD2 adapter cable . In addition, it connects pins 3 (CAN-H) and 11 (CAN-L) of the OBD2 connector for logging J1939 data via channel 2. This is useful in some heavy-duty vehicles where the OBD2 connector also allows access to the J1939 data via these pins (according to the standardised pinout of the Volvo 2013 OBD2 connector).

This adapter cable is useful in trucks/buses that allow access to J1939 data via pins 3 and 11 of the OBD2 connector.

Specifically, the cable enables the direct connection of a CAN bus data logger to the standard OBD2 connector. Like our standard OBD2 adapter, this may give you access to the J1939 data and/or allow you to request data via OBD2 requests. However, some trucks/buses do not provide access to the J1939 data via the standard OBD2 pins (6 and 14), but instead provide it as a 2nd CAN bus (via pins 3 and 11).

This cable facilitates the use of a CANedge (2 x CAN logger) for connection to both the standard OBD2 pins (via CH1) and optional J1939 pins (via CH2). See also our introduction to OBD2 and J1939.
