Description

The Backup Boot Flash Kit (SO16W) is used as a serial flash emulator for easy code development to reduce your time to market. The Backup Boot Flash module (included) can be connected to the application via 2 different methods.

  • To the main serial flash package soldered to the board using our SO16W test clip (included).
  • To your application 2.54mm (2X5) BBF connector (if application designed with) using the appropriate BBF cable (included).

Your application will automatically work on the backup SPI flash inserted in the SO16W socket in our tool and can be easily modified or even updated for new trials using our SF100 programmer (included). Our kit is completely transparent to the application and gives the developer great flexibility for code trials or updates. The kit is commonly used to boot faulty computers and use the Flash Utility Tools to update the corrupted bios memory.

Features

  • Serial flash emulator, transparent to the application
  • Compatible with most applications (no hardware modification required)
  • Automatic deactivation of the main serial flash soldered on the board (no removal required)
  • Image download speed at 1Mbits/s to SPI flash and read at 2Mbits/s
  • USB interface
  • Protection against signal conflicts

Applications

Your application will automatically work on the backup SPI flash inserted in the SO16W socket in our tool and can be easily modified or even updated for new experiments with our SF100 programmer (included). The kit is completely transparent to the application and gives the developer great flexibility for code trials or updates. The kit is commonly used to boot faulty computers and use the Flash Utility Tools to update the corrupted bios memory.

Please note that the BBF modules only support 3.3V/2.5V IC. It is recommended to use a socket adapter for offline programming only.

Hardware requirement

Pull-up resistor between hold pin and Vcc if serial flash is not removed in application (schematics available on request).

Supported ICs

With the help of the flash programming software of the SF series, a large number of SPI flashes can be easily flashed. Our selection assistant gives you an insight into which ICs are already supported.
