Description

Introducing Sensepeek's new SQG series of high frequency hands-free probes, which includes a range of GHz probes designed for both AC and DC applications. This ground-breaking series enables engineers to make repetitive measurements in the GHz range without the need for complex setups or soldering on the DUT. With exceptionally low probe tip capacitance, the SQG series minimises signal distortion and eliminates capacitive loading, making it ideal for sensitive circuits where maintaining signal integrity is critical. Whether you are working in high frequency environments, measuring RF traces or processing fast data rates, these probes are designed to handle high data rates while keeping your signals clear and precise. In addition, they offer an exceptionally flat frequency response, ensuring unparalleled accuracy over a wide frequency range.

Unlike many other probes on the market, all performance data is provided right out of the box, so no additional accessories or soldering fixtures are required, saving you time and hassle.

The SQG series includes interchangeable spring-loaded test probes with fine pitch to ensure reliable contact with small or delicate components. The two grounding options, a dual grounding needle with a 2.3 mm tip pitch perfect for PCB mounted RF connectors and a solid single grounding with a 6.5 mm tip pitch designed for more remote grounding points, make this probe adaptable to a variety of configurations and provide flexibility no engineer should be without.

Features

  • Passive 10:1 probe head, optimised for use with all measuring devices with an input impedance of 50 &Omega
  • Impedance of the probe tip of 333 Ω
  • Usable data rate of more than 12 Gbps, ideal for high-speed signal measurements
  • Remarkably low probe tip capacitance of less than 0.69 pF to avoid capacitive loading
  • Flat frequency response (+/- 0.5 dB) from 1.15 kHz to 4.8 GHz
  • Max ringing (+/-) 0.065 dB at 3 GHz and 0.15 dB at 6 GHz
The SQG series is suitable for use with all measuring devices that have an input impedance of 50 Ω and is therefore versatile:

  • Oscilloscopes
  • Sampling oscilloscopes
  • Network analysers
  • Spectrum and modulation analysers
  • Receivers
  • Power meters
  • Millivoltmeters

AC or DC coupled probes

Sensepeek offers both AC and DC coupled probes designed for engineers who require precise signal integrity for a variety of applications. Low impedance probes inherently load the signal being measured, slightly reducing its amplitude. For signals with a DC bias, these probes can absorb or dissipate current from the signal source, which can affect the operating bias of sensitive devices.
AC-coupled probes are particularly beneficial when working with DC-biased data streams, such as those found in high-speed interfaces like USB, HDMI and SATA or in differential signal standards like ECL and PECL. AC-coupled probes are also ideal for investigating small, high-frequency signals on supply lines or control circuits, which are critical for diagnosing problems such as power supply noise, current ripple or decoupling inefficiencies.

Minimising signal interruptions during high-frequency probing

Testing microwave transmission lines is a major challenge, as the addition of conductor material can introduce capacitance and disturb the geometry and impedance of the line. These disturbances can lead to inaccuracies at the point of contact.
However, by reducing the loading effect of the probe and ensuring consistent performance across all relevant frequencies, the primary impact is a slight reduction in signal amplitude at the probe tip. Importantly, this reduction does not alter the waveform or its spectral content and phases.

Compatibility with the PCBite range

Both the length and weight of the SQG probes are perfectly matched for use with PCBite holders, ensuring optimum performance for hands-free applications. The SQG series probes are designed for superior stability with a low centre of gravity, increasing reliability. All probes are insulated and can be hand-held like conventional probes, but they are particularly powerful when used in hands-free mode. In addition, the probe and its accessories are supplied in a specially designed case for safe transport and storage. The SQG series is the ideal solution for engineers looking for precision, stability and ease of use in high frequency measurements.
Whether you are troubleshooting power supply integrity issues or analysing signal fidelity in high-speed digital designs, Sensepeek's range of AC and DC coupled probes provide the versatility and precision that high frequency and electronics engineers require.
By adjusting the probe or instrument gain or scaling the measurement data, the low amplitude loss can be compensated for, ensuring precise and accurate measurements.
