Measurement of the magnetic permeability of thin-film materials

Film materials with a thickness of less than 1 micrometer are called thin-film materials and are mainly used in the fields of semiconductor functional devices and optical coatings .

For determining the dielectric constant and magnetic permeability of thin-film materials, Tonghui offers a complete solution with the TH2851 impedance analyzer in combination with suitable measuring devices and software.

Solution details

Object being measured:
Thin-film material, thickness: 10 μm–100 μm

Measurement requirements:

  • Frequency range: 1–20 MHz
  • Permeability range: 50–200

The complex permeability is calculated by measuring the impedance parameters of the magnetic material. For this purpose, a wire is wound around the magnetic material and the impedance at the end of the wire is measured.

The TH26088 is a specially developed measuring device for determining the magnetic permeability of magnetic materials. It can be configured with a single-turn inductor , whereby the material is formed into a ring shape.

With this single-turn inductor, no magnetic flux loss occurs. The magnetic field within the measuring device is precisely calculated based on electromagnetic theory.
