The specific electrical resistivity of the lowest layers of the seabed can be determined using the marine controlled electromagnetic exploration method (m-CSEM, Marine Controlled-Source Electromagnetic) .

In this process, electromagnetic signals are artificially generated and received near or directly on the seabed. Based on the measured electromagnetic data, the volume resistivity of combustible ice (natural gas hydrate) can be determined.

Furthermore, information such as the natural gas hydrate content can be calculated. This method effectively improves the success rate of drilling and is suitable for both onshore and shallow water exploration .
