Description

The SDG8004A is a high-resolution, 4-channel function and arbitrary waveform generator from the SDG8000A series. Designed for demanding development and test applications, it delivers output frequencies up to 5 GHz (5 GHz at 12 GSa/s, 4 GHz at 10 GSa/s) with a vertical resolution of up to 16 bits. Its architecture allows for up to 4 Gpts of signal memory per channel, a modular IQ output, and a modulation bandwidth of up to 2 GHz. Operation is via the integrated 7-inch touchscreen; interfaces include USB host/device and LAN, with GPIB available as an option. Typical applications include RF and communications testing, IoT/Bluetooth/WLAN simulations, 5G/LTE signal generation, and precise pulse and serial data simulations.

The SDG8004A was specifically designed for developers and test labs requiring high-bandwidth, high-precision signals. Its combination of 16-bit resolution, interpolated sampling rate (10 GSa/s, optionally 12 GSa/s in IQ mode), and up to 4 Gpts of memory per channel enables long, detailed waveforms, even at high bandwidths. The instrument features extensive internal functions such as multi-pulse, multi-tone, chirp/LFM, and sequencing, as well as segment playback for complex test sequences. Integrated digital modulation and compatibility with standardized communication formats allow for direct output of Bluetooth, OFDM, LTE, or WLAN signals with appropriate software support. Discriminated single-ended and differential outputs, along with standardized control and data interfaces, are available for test setups. Typical applications include radio module development, RF front-end testing, impulse testing in the automotive industry, and validation of high-speed serial links.
