The SDS5000HD-PA is an activatable power analysis option that extends the capabilities of SDS5000X HD oscilloscopes for demanding testing tasks in power electronics. Typical applications include measurements on switched-mode power supplies, motor drives, and power converters: determining active and reactive power, analyzing harmonics in the current waveform, determining switching losses and evaluating inrush currents, as well as ripple and efficiency measurements. The option works in conjunction with the scope hardware and requires a deskew test tool and at least one suitable current probe for correct calibration. Measurement results are displayed within the scope software, enabling detailed analysis and comparison of measurement cycles. The license can be activated retroactively, allowing existing SDS5000X HD instruments to be easily upgraded. Integration into the familiar user interface ensures that operation and data acquisition remain consistent with other measurement tasks in everyday laboratory work.
